A New Kind of Scientific Framework
Consciousness research is not just a new field of science, but a new way of looking at nature. The finding that consciousness is involved in creating or influencing concrete reality requires us to re-examine our presumptions about the way the world works.
If a two-way dialogue exists between our minds and physical reality, in which each informs and influences the other, we must adopt a new framework—and new precautions—for the enterprise of science and for reaching conclusions. Most notably, the doctrines of materialism and reductionism, which have characterized modern science, must be re-examined. These approaches are artifacts of the prevailing scientific paradigm, which does not address, or is ill-equipped to explain, certain features of consciousness.
We believe that consciousness can be critically and scientifically explored, and that with intelligence and reason, we can update our theories about how the world works. Like all true science, this requires only an open mind and a desire to follow the evidence, wherever it leads.
